It had to be Switzer­land’s busiest el­ev­at­or! It con­nec­ted the kit­chen and wash­ing sta­tion (on the first floor) with the stor­e­rooms (base­ment level) and res­taur­ant (second floor). Not what you'd call ef­fi­cient. That’s why the first thing we did was to shorten the routes and move the kit­chen to the second floor. We cal­cu­lated the renov­a­tion and space re­quire­ments in ad­vance. The sale of the old in­vent­ory added an ad­di­tion­al CHF 45,000 to the con­struc­tion budget. Trucks from all over the world picked up el­ev­at­ors, fire­places and kit­chen parts to be re­pur­posed else­where. The re­fur­bish­ment of the main build­ing and the room up­grades were fin­anced des­pite a tight budget and the pro­ject was com­pleted with ac­tu­al costs 10% below budget. We can man­age a strong per­form­ance even with lim­ited re­sources.

the biggest challenge

A conversion in three stages, with the business still operating throughout. Not an easy task. The cost ceiling was another tough hurdle. We had to budget cleverly and clearly distinguish between the “must-haves” and the “nice-to-haves” to find a balance. It didn’t hurt the result!

Fun Fact

There’s a special light switch that eliminates all disruptive light sources in a flash at the annual outdoor cinema on the hotel premises, which welcomes up to 600 guests. All at the touch of a button! A clever technology, which can put the lights back on just as quickly to serve guests during the interval.
